Deanna Jean Straach Greer of Zephyr, passed away September 20th, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones after a long battle with cancer.

Services will be held at Heartland Funeral Home on Saturday September 24, 2022, at 10:00am. Interment to follow in the Zephyr Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00.

Deanna was born to Eugene and Lillian Patterson Straach on November 7, 1943, in Dallas. She moved to Zephyr as a teenager and met and married the love of her life the late Tommy (Richard T.) Greer on May 27, 1961. They were able to celebrate 61 years of marriage.

Deanna was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Zephyr, and she enjoyed many social groups including her Bunco groups, Canasta, and her beloved Bible study group. She was a member of the Brownwood Women’s Club, and Brownwood Garden club. She also volunteered at Brownwood Regional Hospital, the Animal Shelter Resale shop, and Good Samaritan.

Deanna had many hobbies including cooking, gardening, collecting, and traveling with friends. Shopping was more than life to her, and she especially loved her trips to Dallas Market, Macy’s, and Bealls.

Deanna was a people person, and she loved spending quality time with her family and friends. Her favorite thing on earth was having big family gatherings. She loved cooking a huge Sunday lunch, baking and eating sweets, and having birthday celebrations with her children and grandchildren. She has truly left a legacy here for us at the homestead.

She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Greer Long of Brownwood and her son, Scott Greer and wife Pamela of Zephyr; grandchildren Taylor Long and wife Jana of Brownwood; Landry Greer, Lexi Greer and Layton Greer of Zephyr and great grandchildren Harrison and Landon Long.

The family would like to thank the community of Zephyr friends, our caregiver Paula Leon, and the amazing Alpha Omega Hospice team for such warm tender hearts and helping hands. They’ve truly eased this entire process for us and have been a huge blessing during this tough time.

Memorials may be made to The Zephyr Community Center and Zephyr Cemetery Associations.

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be offered to the Greer family online at heartlandfuneralhome.net.
