Eugenio Cantu

Eugenio Cantu passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 7, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born on March 12, 1928 in Villa Union, Coahuila, Mexico to Genaro and Teodosa Cantu. He married the love of his life, Dora Matamoros on February 22, 1955 and they were married for over 67 years. Eugenio was a devoted family man and together they raised seven children. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Eugenio was a ranch worker for many years and held various jobs prior to retiring from Kohler Company. He was a hard worker with strong work ethics which he passed down to his children. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Eugenio is survived by his loving wife Dora. He is also survived by his children, Elsa (Richard) Laing, George (Cathy) Cantu, Norma (Guy) Glavich, Joe (Maria) Cantu, Aracelia (Nate) Sills ,Sylvia Kohanski, Luis (Liz) Cantu, 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grand children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Alejandro Cantu, Ricardo Cantu, Jose Cantu, Diego Cantu, Francisco Cantu and his sisters Guadalupe Garcia and Esperanza Garcia.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Davis Morris Funeral Home, Brownwood, TX. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Francis Onyekozuru officiating. Interment will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery, Brownwood, TX.

The family would like to thank Solaris Hospice staff, especially Miriam Chapa and Alicia Robles for their exceptional care.

Services are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home Davis-Morris Chapel of Brownwood.
