Ben Shackelford, age 63, of Brownwood passed away Friday, August 26, 2022, at his home.

Graveside services for Ben will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Jordan Springs Cemetery with Bro. Terry Simmons officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

Ben was born on January 25, 1959, to Guy and JoAnn (Grisham) Shackelford in Big Springs. He graduated from Brownwood High School in 1977. Ben had worked as an Engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad before going to work and retiring from Texas Department of Transportation in 2017.

When his girls were growing up, Ben enjoyed coaching and watching them participate in sports. Later on, he loved traveling to watch his six grandchildren in their sports and activities. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, visiting with friends, and listening to Brownwood Lions on the radio. Ben was also lovingly known as Granddad, Granddad Shack, Shack, and Bisket.

Ben is survived by his pride and joy, his children and grandchildren: daughter, Haylee Ratliff of Brownwood and her children, Reagan, Stone, Kendall, and Logan; daughter, Ashley Saunders and husband Travis of Blanket and their children, Hadalee and Sterlin. He is also survived by his brother, Randle Shackelford and wife Kay of Rochelle; sister, Debra Shackelford of Burleson; niece, Casey Shackelford and her daughter, Kynlee; nephew, Ty Cutter Shackelford; special uncle, Joe Shackelford of Granite Shoals; and his best friend, Lang Slayton of New Mexico; along with several other relatives and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and JoAnn Shackelford; and his brothers, Ronnie and Tommy Shackelford.

Ben will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Online condolences for the family are welcome at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com.
