Growing pains continue for Brownwood volleyball at Peaster Showcase

PEASTER – The growing pains continued for the young Brownwood Lady Lions volleyball team over the weekend, who dropped all four of their matches in the Peaster Showcase in straight sets.

The Lady Lions were dealt defeats by the Peaster JV (25-16, 25-22, 25-21), Class 3A No. 4 Peaster (25-8, 25-16, 25-3), Springtown (25-13, 25-11, 25-12) and Midland Greenwood (25-23, 25-8, 25-13).

For the weekend, Brownwood’s attack was paced by Aubrie Felux and Hannah Deen with 12 kills apiece, Ibis Alvarado with nine, Ava Choate and Aniah Hines both with eight, Miranda Northcutt with seven, Kassidy Wooten with two, and Molly Oliver and Emma Ringler with one kill each.

Deen and Choate both served four aces while Alvarado, Felux, Ringler and Chloe Walls chipped in one apiece.

Alvarado also dished out 26 assists.

Defensively, Wooten logged 33 digs followed by 10 from Alvarado, eight from Choate, two each from Oliver and Deen, and one apiece by Ringler and Northcutt.

At the net, Hines recorded seven blocks followed by Northcutt with six, Choate with four and Deen with a pair.

The Lady Lions (2-11) will attempt to return to the win column Tuesday as they host Clyde at 6 p.m.
