Bombers Sheffield 12U win New Mexico Sizzlin Summer Tournament

Bombers Sheffield 12u ended the spring/summer season this last weekend as tourney champions out of 13 teams in New Mexico. They had a record of 44-17 this season. They finished off the season with 18 straight wins. They have not lost a game since their one run loss at nationals in South Carolina.
This last weekend the girls were 7-0 in New Mexico.  Corinne Sheffield was tournament MVP. She pitched 16 innings and had 28 strikeouts. Her ERA was .875. Opposing teams hit .119 against her. Corinne was also 2nd on the team hitting with a .500 batting average for the weekend.  Eva Espinosa and Jensen Harrower both earned tourney balls for their defensive efforts. Eva was solid at short stop and rallied around her pitchers and catchers to make plays all weekend. Jensen was consistent in the outfield and made some key catches and put outs! Maty Quick was offensive MVP this weekend. She hit .667 for the weekend. She lit other teams up with solid licks all weekend.
This weekend was truly a team effort. Burkleigh Gonzalez reached 50 hits for the season this weekend. Amarrea Thomas launched 3 run home-run blast! Andie Simpson reached 49 hits for the season and had a cannon behind the plate!
For the season, Maty Quick led the team with a .529 average, followed by Burkleigh Gonzalez with a .519 average and Corinne Sheffield with a .420 average. Burkleigh Gonzalez led the team with 57 hits, followed by Andie Simpson with 49 and Corinne Sheffield with 47 hits. Corinne Sheffield led the team with 40 RBIs, followed by Andie Simpson with 36, Brenda Allen had 31 RBIs. Burkleigh Gonzalez and Gabrielle Volz led the team in steals with 21 apiece, followed by Andie Simpson with 19.
For the season, Corinne Sheffield pitched 140 innings, had 176 strikeouts (in 12u.) She had a 1.64 ERA and opposing teams batted .205 against her. Corinne reached her 1,000th strikeout this season since beginning pitching in 2019. Brenda Allen pitched 56 innings, with 42 strikeouts. She kept opposing teams to just a .315 batting average. Eva Espinosa pitched 18 innings, with 14 strikeouts and a 2.67 ERA and teams only hit .132 against her.
Bombers 12u Sheffield won 1st in the last 3 tourneys. This season they had 4 tourney championships, two 2nd place finishes (class A tourneys, qualified for nationals at one), one 3rd place finish (playing in 14u division), and one 4th place finish at nationals against all class A teams in South Carolina.
The team will resume playing in August, when they start the fall season.
