Delbert Royce Wallace ,79, of Bangs, TX, passed away on July 18, 2022, in Brownwood Texas with his family by his side. Visitation will be on July 21, 2022, from 4-6pm at Davis Morris Funeral home in Brownwood, TX.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am on July 22, 2022, at Davis Morris Funeral home in Brownwood, TX with the Dr. Pepper Dill of Bangs First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Bangs Cemetery. Following the graveside services, a time of fellowship and food will take place at the Bangs Community Center.

Delbert Royce Wallace was born in Brownwood, TX to Vernon “Sam” Wallace and Marie Koch Wallace on 10-31-1942. He was raised on the family farm in Bangs, TX where he worked from a very young age. He graduated from Bangs High School and was part of the track state championship team in 1960. He was given the name “Wildchild” for his love of driving fast in the hot rods he built. He was married to Jean Mitchell on September 12,1964 in Brownwood, TX. They were married for almost 58 yrs. Royce was employed at general telephone electric (GTE) for 25 years as a construction supervisor in San Angelo, TX. After retirement, he moved back to Bangs, TX to train horses, build hot rods, serve in his community, and take his horses, dogs, and carts to local parades. As part of the community, he helped to build and get funding for the Bangs city park, bringing much fun and enjoyment to the kids of his small town. He would teach any adult or child how to ride horses, drive a car, or work on an engine. He never tired of helping or teaching someone. Royce also served his country in the National Guard for 8 yrs.

Royce is preceded in death by his parents Sam and Marie Wallace and Mother-in-Law, Bertie Mae Mitchell.

Royce is survived by his wife, Jean Mitchell Wallace of Bangs, TX. A sister, Francis Justice of Frisco, TX. Children: Candi Wallace of Brownwood, TX, Von Wallace of Allen, TX, Jason and Tammi Wood of Brimfield, MA, Rod Carlson, and Michaela Castro-Delanoe. Grandchildren: Tiffany and Blake Cook of Allen, TX, Samantha Wallace of Plano, TX, David Wallace of McKinney, TX. Kristen Carlson of San Angelo, TX. Charles, William, and Michael Carlson. Great Grandchildren: Ruby and Wolfram Cook.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Texas Rehab Center of San Angelo, TX. westtexasrehab.org

The family of Royce Wallace wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Brownwood’s Hendricks Medical Center Emergency Room, Pecan Bayou Nursing Home, and Interim Hospice for your kindness, empathy, and comfort you provided to our family and our dad.
