Richard Shield

Richard Shield, age 89, of Santa Anna, Texas passed from this life to the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 8:31 am at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman.

Services will be Friday at 10:00 am at the Santa Anna Cemetery Pavilion.  Interment will follow with services under the care and direction of Henderson Funeral of Santa Anna.

Richard was born July 31, 1932 in Coleman, Texas to Elgene and Flora Jenkins Shield.  He was raised in Santa Anna where he graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1950.  He continued his education at University of Texas graduating in 1954.  In 1952 Richard married Sylvia Eton Slak in Austin and she preceded him in death.  On July 31, 1991 he married Kate Tyson in Austin and they have celebrated thirty years of marriage.

Richard served his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force.  Following his graduation and military service he resided in Austin until 1999 then returning to Santa Anna.  While in Austin he was a member of the Rotary Club and Optimist Club and owned Vaccum Tec., Industrial distribution.  He was also an engineer for Texas Instruments in Richardson, Texas.

Survivors include wife -Kate Shield of Santa Anna, Texas; daughter – Leonore Shield of San Antonio, Texas; 2 sons – Leon Shield of Santa Anna, Texas and Roland & wife Gina Shield of Auburn, CA; Sister – Suzzanne Polk of San Marcos, Texas; 3 Brothers – Elgean Shield of Lake Livingston, Texas, Alan Shield of Georgetown, Texas, and Eric Shield of Austin, Texas; 2 Grandchildren – Caleb & Jedidiah Shield; and Several Nieces and Nephews

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and Brother Jerome Shield.
