Bangs City Council approves selling excess equipment, no action taken on City Administrator position

The Bangs City Council met Monday, July 11.

BANGS – The Bangs City Council met Monday night, and the lone item on the agenda in which action was taken was the approval of declaring computer-related equipment as excess and placing it for sale on govdeals.com.

Among the items discussed was amending the budget for a possible increase in pay for the City Administrator. Llano City Manager Erica Berry was offered the job on July 5 at a salary of $90,000 a year with 75 percent paid by the city and 25 percent paid by the Bangs Economic Development Council.

Berry has neither accepted or declined the position as she is currently on vacation from her job in Llano. Berry was hired in Llano last August for a salary of $100,000 for a one-year contract, which is the amended price the city council discussed Monday. Of the additional $10,000, a total of $7,500 would be paid by the City of Bangs, according to Monday night’s discussions.

“I would probably wait and do it when (City Secretary) Tonya (Slate, who was absent due to illness) gets back, so you would know exactly what budget item you’re amending,” said Bangs City Attorney Mark Bessent. “It may require a larger amendment than just a reimbursement.”

Mayor Rick Phelps reiterated after the meeting that Berry has neither accepted nor declined the position at this point.

Other items on the agenda that were discussed, but no action was taken, included:

  • personnel manual and police procedures manual
  • updating the Bangs Code of Ordinances
  • drug testing for city employees
  • scheduling budget workshops
