Brownwood Police Department conducts unattended death investigation

The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Wednesday afternoon:

On Sunday, June 19, 2022, at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers with the Brownwood Police Department responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Ave. H regarding a report of a deceased person.

When officers arrived on scene, they met with the reporting citizens in the front yard who explained that they discovered 49yr old Kelli Holland Chandler Wills deceased. Ms. Wills’ body was located in the front yard of the residence nearest the left corner of the home. An unattended death investigation commenced.

In the investigation, no physical sign of trauma or injury was observed. Ms. Wills’ medical history demonstrated a varied list of health issues.

Ms. Wills’ body has been transported for an autopsy.

Warrant Arrest – Motion to Revoke Aggravated Assault

When the Communications Center received the 911 call of Ms. Wills death, they also received information that Ms. Wills’ husband, 45-year-old Cody Joe Wills was leaving the scene in his vehicle.

Officers enroute to the call, were able to locate Mr. Wills and initiated a traffic stop in the 1800blk of 6th St. Mr. Wills was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of Brown County for Motion to Revoke Aggravated Assault. This warrant arrest in unrelated to the unattended death. Mr. Wills was interviewed about Ms. Wills’ death prior to being released to Brown County Jail Staff.

We, at the Brownwood Police Department extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Ms. Wills and our prayers are for them in this trying time.

We also understand that the circumstances surrounding Ms. Wills death and Mr. Wills behavior on this day are not normal. As we continue to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of Ms. Wills death, we ask for patience. This will take time as assigned investigators work the case and draw information from the factual evidence we have received and continue to gather.
