The Howard Payne University men’s basketball program announced today the addition of BJ Hollis as assistant men’s basketball coach.

BJ Hollis comes to Howard Payne from Sul Ross State where he served as a graduate assistant coach for the past two seasons. Hollis graduated from Brady High School.

“We are extremely excited to have Coach Hollis added to our coaching staff, said Nadir Dalleh, head men’s basketball coach. “He brings a winning mentality from a successful program where he was a player and a coach. His experience in this conference will be invaluable because he knows what it takes to compete and win.”

During that time, Sul Ross State had back-to-back conference tournament appearances. Hollis was responsible for scouting, practice prep, and monitoring player development.

“I am excited to be joining the Howard Payne Yellow Jacket family,” said BJ Hollis. “I look forward to learning and working with Coach Dalleh and getting Howard Payne basketball back to where it belongs. I love the vision he has for this program and I’m ready to be a part of it.”

Also, while on the Lobo staff, Hollis served as the interim head coach in January of 2022 due to Covid.

An undergraduate of Sul Ross State, Hollis was a three-year starter helping guide the Lobos to two ASC West Division Championships, one ASC Championship, and one NCAA Tournament appearance.

Hollis added, “Howard Payne as a whole is heading in a great direction and I am super excited to be a part of it. I hope to see the coliseum full of Yellow Jacket fans this upcoming season. It’s time to get to work, Sting’em!”

With multiple All-Conference honors, Hollis scored over 1,000 career points, grabbed over 400 career rebounds, and was a career 90% free throw shooter at Sul Ross.

Hollis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Sul Ross State and completed a graduate degree from Sul Ross in Human Performance in May of 2022.
