BANGS – The Bangs City Council held its June meeting Monday night, which featured 28 discussion and action items. Among the highlights during the near three-hour assembly:

  • A Building Incentive Grant Program was approved as the Economic Development Corporation will offer two matching grants up to $10,000 per year for businesses looking to improve their respective facilities within the city limits.
  • Lee Haney was appointed Bangs Municipal Court Judge, replacing Genetha Chastain
  • Chad Lorah was reappointed as Parks and Recreation Director. Lorah also serves as president of the Parks and Recreation board, which currently consists of just three people opposed to the normal five.
  • Greggory Cassady remains Mayor Pro-Tem after an election by the members of the City Council.
  • The dance stage for the June 25 Bangs Fest event will be located in the parking lot of the Event Center.
  • A hiring committee was appointed in an effort to secure City Administrator/EDC Director, which will consist of Mayor Rick Phelps, council members Greg Parrott and Greg Flores, and EDC members Carrol Wells and Sara Young.
  • A water contingency plan was discussed in which a line from the Brookesmith Water Supply Corporation would be constructed to service the City of Bangs in case of emergency, such as the freeze of 2021 or excessive drought conditions. The City Council was advised to secure a written agreement with Brookesmith Water Supply Corporation for the emergency line and further discussions will be held at that point.
