On Saturday the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce hosted registration for its Lemonade Day summer program.  Over twenty children signed up in the first hour alone.

The Lemonade Day program teaches children how to run a business, in this case a lemonade stand.  There will be four training sessions this summer where the kids will learn how to plan their stand and execute the plan, including budgeting, financing, and marketing.  On August 13 all the stands will be set up at various participating businesses around town.  There will be contests for Best Stand and Highest Sales.  It is a good opportunity for children to earn some money for themselves, and to learn where money comes from.

Chamber Executive Director Kandice Harris commented:  “I am so excited to see all these smiling faces out here today.  It’s great to see parents investing in their children, teaching them that it’s OK to start now to learn how to be an entrepreneur.  This is a summer-long learning initiative.  They can download an app and learn some things.  Also we will be hosting some workshops where they can learn some things at the Chamber, and around the community in different locations as well.”

One of the sponsors is Chick-Fil-A.  Owner Bridgit Jones was present and commented:  “I am a former educator and a mom of two.  I am really excited to give this learning opportunity to the children in our community. I was going through the lessons this morning with my ten-year-old, and we got a chance to talk about profit and investing in a business and what that looks like, and also giving back to the community as well.”

Registration for the Lemonade Day program continues through Friday, June 17.  You can register online at: www.lemonadeday.org/brownwood, or call the Chamber at 325-646-9535.
