The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Wednesday morning:

On Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at approximately 9 p.m. Sergeant Art Shannon conducted a traffic stop on a sedan in the 100 block of Melwood St. after he observed that vehicle run past a stop sign.

As he approached the vehicle, Sgt Shannon noted that the driver’s window did not function; causing the driver to open the door to speak to him.  The driver was asked to exit the vehicle and provide identifying information while the citation was being issued.

While speaking with the driver, she identified herself with the last name of Garza and gave a date of birth of July 18th.  A communications check was unable to locate any identification cards or driver’s licenses using the information provided.  The driver was again asked for her name and date of birth and gave a date of birth of July 8th this time.

Ultimately, the driver was positively identified as 39-year-old Amber Nicole Bergman of Brownwood.  Communications located and confirmed four (4) warrants for her arrest out of Brownwood Municipal Court for various traffic violations.

Bergman was arrested for the warrants and further charged with Failure to Identify/Fugitive.  Bergman was transported to the Brown County Jail.

While conducting an inventory of the vehicle, officers located a residual amount of marijuana and methamphetamine along with ½ a pill of Xanax.  Given this discovery, Bergman was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1 and Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 3.
