Brownwood to host area track meet, 20 entries competing

Brownwood’s Gordon Wood Stadium will be the site of the District 5-4A/6-4A area track meet Friday, where a total of 20 Lions and Lady Lions entries are looking to qualify for regionals. The top four finishers in each event will move on the Region I-4A meet in Lubbock April 29-30.

Leading the charge are the Lions with four district champions – Tyse Savage in the 200 meters (21.97); Tobey Yeats in the 110-meter hurdles (15.74); the 4×100 relay team of Jake Jetton, Jordyn Nickerson, Savage, and Jakob Hataway (43.71); and the 4×200 relay team of Jetton, Savage, Brayden Daub, and Nickerson (1:30.75).

Advancing as a runner-up in the 100 meters was Nickerson with a time of 11.15.

Moving on with third-place efforts were Hataway in the 100 meters (11.22), Logan McKibben in the triple jump (41-3), and Weston Burns in the pole vault (11-0).

Punching area tickets in fourth place were Daub in the 100 meters (11.41), Nickerson in the long jump (20-2.5), and Thad Hinds in the high jump (5-10).

For the Lady Lions, second-place performances were turned in by Kate Tindol in the 200 meters (26.33), Sidney Windham in the 800 meters (2:30.39), the 4×200 relay of Talia Clifton, Braycee Lee, Tindol and Windham (1:52.32), and the 4×400 relay of Windham, Tindol, Kynslee Walker and Lee (4:21.59).

Finishing third to advance was Miranda Northcutt in the 300-meter hurdles (49.41).

Qualifying for area in fourth place were Walker in the 400 meters (1:05.49), Clifton in the 100-meter hurdles (17.04) , Northcutt in the long jump (16-4.25), and the 4×100 relay team of Walker, Lee, Jayme Cottle and Jacklyn Lewis (53.76).
