Margaret “Toggie” Blaylock, of Brownwood, has gone to her Heavenly home, peacefully passing on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the age of 100.
Gravesides Services for Margaret will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple with Pastor Ron Keener officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Ruth Margaret was born to Briscoe and Lucile (Varnell) Nixon on October 7, 1921, in Belton, Texas. She graduated from Belton High School in 1938, where she was known as “Toggie”. She married Cecil W. “Pete” Blaylock on February 11, 1940. Margaret and Pete loved to travel in “Giddy-up”, their motor home they named. They saw all but three states, Hawaii, Maine, and Alaska. They were married 50 years before his passing on May 6, 1990.
Margaret worked for The Southwest State Telephone Company, was a secretary to the Science Division of Howard Payne College and also at S&M Music. She retired in 1981.
Margaret gave her life to Christ when she was ten and has been active in church since then. When she and Pete moved to Brownwood in October of 1942, they joined Central Methodist Church. Music was her favorite pass time. She led the singing for the Ladies Dept. of Sunday School and The Upper Room Bible Class. She joined United Methodist Women, taking her two boys with her. She was active in Martha Circle and sang in the choir at different times until her eyesight prevented her from seeing the music. While she was working, she was the President of A.B.W.A and was awarded Bluebonnet of the Year and Woman of the Year.
She loved her family, and she would show you a picture anytime. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was known as “TaTa”.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil W. “Pete” Blaylock; her parents; two brothers, Joseph Harold Nixon and James Maurice “Jimmy” Nixon; and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Trahan.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories two sons, James Carlton Blaylock and wife Ailene of Conroe, Joseph Wayne Blaylock and wife Mabel Anne of San Saba; five grandchildren, Leah Trahan of The Woodlands, Jamie Leigh Hill and husband Ron of The Woodlands, Brian Blaylock of Georgetown, Britt Blaylock and wife Shelle of Waxahachie, and Brandon Blaylock of Brownwood; eight great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. She also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
