GATESVILLE – For the first time since 2004, the Brownwood Lady Lions softball team will not compete in the postseason.

The Lady Lions suffered their 12th straight loss, 20-10 in six innings at Gatesville Thursday, to slip to 8-15 overall and 0-7 in league play. The loss, coupled with Stephenville’s 2-0 victory over Lampasas – the second in league play for the Honeybees – mathematically eliminates Brownwood from playoff contention.

The Lady Lions conclude their season Friday, April 22 at home against Stephenville, as they can finish with no more than one league victory while no other team in the district has less than two.

For the second straight game, Brownwood scored the first five runs – all in the top of the first inning – but couldn’t hold the advantage. Gatesville took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the second, the Lady Lions regained an 8-6 lead in the third and the Lady Hornets surged back in front 10-8 in the bottom of the third and never looked back. Gatesville stretched the lead to 13-8 in the fourth and carried a 19-10 edge into the sixth inning.

The Brownwood defense committed 10 errors while Gatesville (7-15, 3-4) generated 16 hits.

In the circle, Annie-Klein Allgood yielded 10 runs – all unearned – on seven hits with one strikeout and one walk over three innings. Tynlea Wilson worked 2.2 innings and gave up 10 runs – nine earned – on nine hits.

Offensively, the Lady Lions produced 15 hits, drew two walks and took advantage of three miscues.

Standouts offensively were Chloe Walls with four hits and an RBI; Mia Lopez with three hits and three RBIs; Hailey Eisenhauer and Marian Soto each tallied two hits and an RBI; Cecilia Rodriguez chipped in a hit and two RBIs; Wilson and Chelsey Covey finished with one hit and one RBI each; Jeniffer Romero added a base hit; and Allgood drew a pair of walks.
