11 Lady Lions earn all-district soccer accolades

Watts Jones (left) was tabbed Co-Midfielder MVP and Alma Bernal was named Defensive Newcomer of the Year.

Eleven members of the District 4-4A runner-up Brownwood Lady Lions soccer team were selected to the all-district, including two superlative award winners.

Lady Lion senior Watts Jones was chosen as Co-Midfield MVP along with Stephenville’s Mia Sanchez. Meanwhile, Brownwood’s Alma Bernal was tabbed as the Defensive Newcomer of the Year.

First-team all-district selections for the Lady Lions included Kennedi Johnson, Ibis Alvarado, and Ataleigh Constancio.

Landing on the second team were Molly Oliver, Reagan Ratliff, Addison Pesina, and Jasmine Gibbs.

Receiving honorable mention were Adryanna Huerta and Priscilla Sanchez.

The rest of the district superlative award winners were are as follows:

  • District MVP: Ansley Mejza – Stephenville
  • Offensive MVP: Tori Cameron – Stephenville
  • Defensive MVP: Kathryn Cameron – Stephenville
  • Goalkeeper MVP: Shawna Morrow – Stephenville, Ariana Menchaca – Mineral Wells
  • Utility Player MVP: Ashley Perez – Stephenville, Madi Wilde – Graham
  • Offensive Newcomer – Talon Philips – Stephenville
  • Coach of the Year – Amy Schrutka – Stephenville

In the classroom, Lady Lions earning academic all-district honors were Alvarado, Bernal, Constancio, Gibbs, Huerta, Johnson, Jones, Braycee Lee, Oliver, Pesina, Sanchez, Marisa Campos, Noemi Ceniceros and Sydney Stewart.

The Lady Lions finished the season with a 13-6-2 record under second-year head coach Alexis Mosqueda and captured a bi-district championship.
