Early win, Bangs loss results in second-place tie in 8-3A softball standings

The Early Lady Horns moved into a tie for second place in the District 8-3A softball standings with Friday’s 15-0 win over Millsap, coupled with the Bangs Lady Dragons’ 11-10 loss to Comanche.

In Early’s win, the Lady Horns (18-6, 7-3) scored five runs in the first inning, two in the second and four each in the third and fourth frames. In the circle, Grace LaRue and Jordyn McIntire combined for a no-hitter against Millsap (0-10 in district) with nine strikeouts, including seven from LaRue over four innings.

Offensive standouts for Early include Taylor Summers with a home and three RBIs; Marissa Reedy triple, doubled and drove in two; Teagan Lopez doubled, singled and plated a run; Stoney McLaughlin doubled, singled and collected an RBI; McIntire tripled, singles and finished with an RBI; LaRue doubled and knocked in a run; and Aubrey Greaves, Jordan Simmons, and Madison Torrez each singled

In Bangs’ loss, the Lady Dragons (12-6, 7-3) led Comanche (4-6 in district) by a 6-1 before Comanche grabbed an 8-6 lead in the fifth. Bangs rallied to draw even at 8 in the bottom of the sixth, but Comanche scored three times in the top of seventh while the Lady Dragons mustered just two runs in their final at-bat.

The Lady Dragons committed six errors as pitcher Abby Wolf allowed just one earned run on six hits with nine strikeouts and four walks.

Bangs finished with 17 hits led by Jacee Miller with three hits, including a home run, and five RBIs; Wolf with four hits and two RBIs; Emily Baker with three hits; Neeley Bradley and Mariah Ruiz with two hits; and Julianna Ethridge, Jadyn Miller, and McKenzie Hughes with one hit apiece.
