ODESSA – The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions saw their postseason runs end in the Region I-4A area round of the soccer playoffs Tuesday at Ratliff Stadium, as San Elizario eliminated both teams.

The Lady Lions dropped a 3-1 decision with Ibis Alvarado accounting for the lone goal on a kick from near the midfield stripe. The Brownwood girls finished the season with a 13-6-2 record, as they were ousted by San Elizario for the second year in a row.

The Lions suffered a 4-0 loss to San Elizario and concluded their first campaign under head coach Michael Westerman with an 8-12-2 record. The Lions also secured their first postseason victory since 2015 with Friday’s 4-3 triumph over Lubbock Estacado.

Lady Lions second-year head coach Alexis Mosqueda said, “I’m proud of these girls for continuing to fight until the last whistle. It was a good, hard-fought game against an aggressive, well-coached soccer team. To my two seniors, Watts Jones and Marisa Campos, I pray that I made as much of an impact on their life as they’ve had on my life. At the beginning of the season after the first practice, we began our season with a prayer. This year we thanked God for getting us through this season with no major injuries. We were super blessed in that aspect. Thank you to all the fans and our continuous support system that made the long trips to cheer us on.”
