Velma Lorene Tarpley

Lorene Tarpley, age 82, of Brady, died Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.

The family will host a visitation from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. Family and friends are invited to a graveside funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Marvin Hale officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

She was born Velma Lorene Shipman on May 21, 1939, in Camp Wood, Texas to J.B. Shipman and Edna B. Smith Shipman. Lorene grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. After graduation, Lorene attended cosmetology school and became a hairdresser. She married Jimmy Dale Tompson Tarpley on March 25, 1960, in Midland. Lorene was a hairdresser, worked at Levis Strauss, and owned and operated Wall Street Antiques in Midland. After retirement, Lorene and Jimmy made their home in Brady where they resided for 23 years. Lorene enjoyed shopping for antiques, rummaging through junk stores, and fishing.

Preceding Lorene in death are her parents, J.B. and Edna Shipman; her husband, Jimmy Dale Tarpley; and one brother, Billie Shipman.

She is survived by her daughter, Sabrina Edwards and husband Dan of Midland; her grandchildren, Casey Smith and wife Mallory of Midland, Tanner Smith and wife Kim of Midland, and Brodi Sims and husband Payton of Midland; her great-grandchildren, Harper Smith, Kendall Smith, Wylee J. Sims, and Rawlee Smith; her sister, Willa Row of Midland; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Casey Smith, Tanner Smith, Payton Sims, Joe Watters, Dan Edwards, and Mike Smith.
