The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety Tuesday afternoon following Sunday’s two-car collision near May that claimed the life of Jerry F. Burnett, 78, of May.

Burnett, traveling south on US 183, 3.3 miles south of May in a 2005 Buick LeSabre, was stopped on the shoulder to make a U-turn. A 2006 Chevrolet K1500 driver by Carl N. Alden of May, was also traveling south and struck the Buick LaSabre on the driver’s side as it made a U-turn. The Buick LaSabre spun around, ejecting the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the 2006 Chevrolet K1500 was wearing a seatbelt.
