Sheffield’s 12U Texas Bombers take second in Waco

Sheffield’s 12U Texas Bombers take 2nd at the CTX SPRING CHALLENGE SERIES tournament held in Waco over the weekend.  With their second place finish Sheffield’s 12U Texas Bombers qualified for the Class A National Tournament that will be held in Camarillo, CA June 28th – June 31st. Sheffield’s 12U Bombers team made Championship Sunday Count!!! They played 5 games on Sunday, 4 in a row. Beating an Athletics Mercado team, a Buzz team, a Pro Form team, and Waco Heat team. They fell to another Buzz team in the Championship 4-2.

Corinne Sheffield was name Tournament MVP. She pitched 6 straight games (5 straight on Sunday alone). She only allowed 3 earned runs, walked only 4 batters, averaged 1.4 strikeouts per inning, and held her opponents batting average to an incredible .184. Sheffield only averaged 4 batters an inning. She pitched a total of 255 pitches, throwing heat!!!

Offensive MVP was Evalynn Espinosa and Andie Simpson. Both girls hit .429 for the tourney and both came up with huge hits and made solid contact. Evalynn’s on base percentage was .500 and Andie’s was .556. Simpson has a slugging percentage of .857, while hitting 3 triples and led the team with 5 RBI’s and scored 7 times. Evalynn had 5 singles and a double.

Gabrielle Volz was our tournament Defensive MVP. She was stellar all weekend, making spectacular plays. She had 11 put outs, a 1,000 fielding percentage, turned a double play and had 0 errors.
