BHS TAFE members, Lilly Lee, Natalie Mares, and Lyric Shaw.

Members of Brownwood High School’s Texas Association of Future Teachers (TAFE) chapter attended the state conference in Dallas on March 3-5, 2022. While at the state conference, TAFE members participated in competitive events and breakout sessions.

Senior Lilly Lee served as an adjudicator for both the Portfolio and the Chapter Yearbook contests, conducting student-presenter interviews and scoring presentations.

The team of senior Natalie Mares and junior Lyric Shaw earned a gold medal for their project showcasing the BHS Educational Internship program. Lyric and Natalie presented their experiences as interns working in direct instructional roles on BISD elementary campuses and learning to plan and direct individualized instruction and group activities, prepare instructional materials, assist with record keeping, and complete other responsibilities of classroom teachers, trainers, paraprofessionals, or other educational personnel.

TAFE is a statewide co-curricular Career and Technical Student Organization that gives students the opportunity to explore the teaching profession while promoting the character, service, and leadership skills necessary for becoming effective teachers. The BHS TAFE teacher-leader is Ren Yantis.

The team of senior Natalie Mares and junior Lyric Shaw earned a gold medal for their project showcasing the BHS Educational Internship program.
