Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is preparing to open in time for the Cinco De Mayo Celebration in downtown Brownwood on Friday, May 6, co-owner Matt McCrane and manager Josh Soto announced on KOXE radio Wednesday afternoon.

“To bring a franchise like Fuzzy’s not only to Brownwood, but to downtown Brownwood, is exciting,” McCrane said. “To keep the traffic count up downtown, to have more foot traffic that we can add to what we have downtown existing now is important. Almost everyday there’s a new business popping up downtown and we’re excited that this is something we could bring to the community.”

Fuzzy’s will employee 20 to 30 team members and applications are now available at Shaw’s Marketplace, located at 508 N. Center Avenue. Positions available include cashiers, bartenders, cooks, etc.

“Cinco de Mayo, we all know that’s a really big time for downtown Brownwood,” Soto said. “To have doors open, to have services available, to have product available and for our team members to be there on site interacting with the community so everyone can see what Matt’s built, what we want to do, what we want to have for everyone, I think it would be a great opportunity for us and our big chance to show the community what we’ve put together.”

Soto’s background includes stints at the Brownwood Country Club, the Runaway Train and The Hideout.

“Bringing on Josh, I couldn’t be more excited,” McCrane said. “He’s got quite a bit of food and beverage experience.”

Soto said of joining Fuzzy’s “Matt’s passion for the project is obvious and seeing what he’s done downtown with Shaw’s, there’s a special environment there. He’s putting back into the community and that’s something he’s never afraid to talk about. That’s the big thing he harps on, what he want to provide as far as a business product and service to the community.”
