Early softball splits final two games at Llano tournament

LLANO – The Early Lady Horns defeated Austin McCallum, 19-1, after suffering an 8-5 loss to Jarrell in Saturday’s final day of Llano softball tournament action.

In the win over McCallum, Early scored seven runs each in the second and third innings with five more coming in the fourth.

The Lady Horns generated 19 hits – three each by Stoney Laughlin, Jordan Simmons, Teagan Lopez and Grace LaRue; two apiece from Gabby Leal and Trinity Torrez; and one each from Aubrey Greaves, Marissa Reedy, and Averey Horton.

Simmons and Lopez shared the team lead with four RBIs each trailed by LaRue with three, and Leal, Greaves and Laughlin with two apiece.

In the circle, Lopez and LaRue combined to give up one run on two hits with one strikeout over four innings.

Against Jarrell, Early fell behind 3-0 after one inning, drew even in the top of the second, and yielded five runs in the bottom of the second. Down 8-3, the Lady Horns tacked on their final two runs in the top of the third.

Early’s six-hit attack featured one each from Greaves, Laughlin, Reedy, Lopez, LaRue and Torrez.

Lopez’s two RBIs were a team-best trailed by Reedy, LaRue and Torrez with one apiece.

In the circle, Lopez and LaRue were tagged for three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Lady Horns (11-3) begin District 8-3A competition at noon Monday at Bangs.
