Six Lady Lions tabbed for all-district basketball team

Six members of the Brownwood Lady Lions basketball team received all-district honors from the coaches of 6-4A, which were released Friday.

Brownwood’s Tessa Goodwin was selected Co-Defensive Player of the Year along with Landri Withers of Stephenville.

Kynslee Walker landed on the first team, Mady Pyle was tabbed for the second-team, and receiving honorable mention were Jaylen Savage, Naysa Leach and Dakota Simpson.

Academic all-district for the Lions were Walker, Leach, Goodwin, Savage, Pyle, Lexi Greer, Lilly Brasher, Jesslyn Sliger, Jadie Sudderth, Kassidy Wooten, Emma Ringer, and Talia Craff.

The remainder of the superlative award winners were Co-Most Valuable Players Aimee Flippen of Glen Rose and Mya Wesley of Stephenville; Offensive MVP Lily Melton of Glen Rose; Co-Newcomers of the Year Addison Borchardt of Lampasas and Alexis Rynders of Glen Rose; Co-6th Men of the Year Kaydence Davis of Glen Rose and Charlie Sommerfeld of Gatesville; and Coach of the Year Ramsey Ghazal and Glen Rose.

Rounding out the first team were Glen Rose’s Hazel Hawkins and Samantha Ellenberger, Lampasas’ Morgan Lovejoy and Peyton Tatum, and Stephenville’s Jaylee Matthews, Lillie Skiles, and Mya Wilson.

Comprising the rest of the second team were Gatesville’s Kamryn Higginbotham and Taylor Coward, Glen Rose’s Abigail Bunt, Lampasas’ Kyleigh Ball and Colbie Chandler; and Stephenville’s Zoe Birdwell and Kennedy Coffee.


The Lady Lions finished with a 20-14 overall record, 3-5 in district, and were the fourth seed in the playoffs. Brownwood reached the playoffs for the 12th time in 13 seasons under head coach Heather Hohertz.
