Jackets chalk up 76-72 road victory over Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas – Howard Payne University’s Frederick Watts scored a career-high 32 points in a 76-72 Yellow Jacket road victory at the University of the Ozarks Saturday afternoon in conference action.

Howard Payne’s Frederick Watts was 13 of 16 from the field for a career-high 32 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Watts scored 19 of his 32 points in the second half. 

Down 39-37 at the half, HPU used 53.1% shooting from the field to outscore the Ozarks 39-33 in the second half to claim the 76-72 conference victory.

The Yellow Jackets forced 18 Eagle turnovers while only committing 10 themselves in the game.

HPU’s Jerren Godfrey followed Watts with 15 points and seven rebounds in the game. Jaylan Ballou and Myles Brown each finished with eight points, Ballou added a team-high seven assists.

Howard Payne is now 5-14 overall and 4-10 in American Southwest Conference action. Ozarks stands at 5-13 overall and 4-9 in league play. The Jackets will be back at home next week on Thursday versus East Texas Baptist at 7:30 pm and on Saturday at 3:00 pm versus Belhaven University.
