Ronald Joseph Mays, aka Buddy, was born December 18th, 1947 to Alvin and Doris Mays in Burnet, TX. He spent his formative years in San Saba, TX. He graduated from San Saba High School in 1966 and was actively involved in FFA, 4-H, Rodeo club and ALL things Cowboy! He proceeded to attend Tarleton State University on a rodeo scholarship and graduated with a bachelor of science degree. After college, Buddy continued a successful rodeo career, and at one point, rose to the top 5 ranking in the world of bull riding. He married Mitzi King, from Coleman, and had 4 children: Jolian, Will, Gus and King. Buddy lived in Coleman for the last 45 years managing a construction company, teaching school, building O.H. Ivie, and cattle ranching. Buddy also had a creative, talented side that engineered many projects that benefited practical purposes and artistic gifts that will live on for generations; this he inherited from his artistic mother.

Buddy is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Griffin Ray Shaw. He is survived by his children: Jolian Mays Shaw (husband Bryan), Will Mays (wife Randi), Gus Mays and King Mays. His two amazing, loving sisters have been by his side: Pam McGowen (husband Randy), and Cheri Inglis (deceased husband, John). Also survived by his pride and joy; three grandsons: Lukas Stone, James Callahan, and Miller Allan, and a precious granddaughter: Margot Louise. Also survived by beloved nieces: Tammye, Brandy, and Rose.

In lieu of any flowers, please donate to: Griffin Ray Memorial Scholarship Fund:

c/o: Bryan and Joli Shaw, 8803 Bargiames Lane, Dallas, TX 75238
