TxDOT crews ready for possible winter precipitation

With the threat of possible winter weather overnight and into Thursday morning, TxDOT crews began pretreatment activities throughout the Brownwood District and other areas of the state.

Bridges and raised structures, along with some spot treatments, in all nine of the Brownwood District’s counties were treated with brine, a salt and water mixture that helps keep frozen precipitation from adhering to the road surface. All main lanes of IH 20 in Eastland County were also treated as forecasts earlier in the week posed a threat to southern portions of the county.

Although a higher potential for frozen precipitation is south of the Brownwood District, motorists are reminded to stay weather alert, especially if traveling in McCullough, Lampasas, San Saba Counties in case the weather pattern shifts.

Temperatures are anticipated to be below freezing overnight and wind chills could drop into the teens Thursday morning. If traveling, be sure your vehicle is ready, check all fluids, tire pressure, and the condition of windshield wipers. Have blankets or warm clothing along with water and snacks in case you become stranded along the roadway.

The Brownwood District includes Brown, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Lampasas, McCulloch, Mills, San Saba, and Stephens Counties.
