Curry O’Dean Christy Sr., 82, of Voca, passed away December 19, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones and his soul mate and loving wife, Carrie.

Dean Christy was born June 10, 1939, at his grandparents home on the Jim Ned River to Normie & Lucille (Curry) Christy. He grew up in Brownwood. He was a parachute rigger in the US Navy. Dean then became an industrial sewing machine mechanic and later managed sewing factories throughout Texas. He owned and operated Christy’s Upholstery for many years in Voca, Texas. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Voca Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years, an activity he thoroughly loved. He was also a board member of the Voca Cemetery Association and enjoyed taking care of the cemetery. He always joked that would be his last address.

He married Anna Hastings and they had 3 children: Deanna, Dean and Donna. He later married Carrie Harwell and joined her family of 3 girls: Lisa, Kim & Tonya.

Dean is survived by his loving wife, Carrie. His children, daughter Deanna and husband Steve Byrd, son Dean Christy Jr., and daughter Donna and husband Robert Fischer. He is also survived by his stepdaughters and their husbands: Lisa and Keith Bryant, Kim and Brent Mitchell, and son-in-law Chris Click. His brother Jack and wife Dorothy Christy, and his sister Janice and her husband Robert Burt also survive him. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Trey Christy and Michael Anthony, Dash and Katie Byrd, Destiny and Trey Tindell, Landon and Ashley Fischer, Robynn and Matt Jones, Gatlin Click, Forrest and Lorna Neeley, Rachael and Michael Cook, Kalle and Garrett Allen, and Lacey Bryant. His great-grandchildren Luke Byrd, Addisyn, Hudson, and Grayson Fischer, Kasey and Ty Jones, Cathrine and Cam Neeley, Landon and Jaylen Cook, Lydia and Shepard Allen, and Scout Hopper also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters and brothers-in-law Norma and Hilmer Lindemann and Nelda and Jay Wyatt, his step-daughter Tonya Click and his granddaughter Dymann Christy. Dean was a very independent and outspoken person and lived his life on his own terms. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, canoeing, fishing and camping. He treasured many friends including Michael Owens and Ann Shuffler.

A celebration of his life will be held on December 29, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Brady National Bank Community Center.

Arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of Brady.
