Longhorns, Lady Dragons notch first district hoops victories

COMANCHE – The Bangs Lady Dragons knocked their first District 8-3A girls basketball victory Tuesday night, fending off the Comanche Maidens, 34-30.

Bangs (7-10, 1-2) led 15-14 at halftime and built a 27-19 lead going into the fourth period. Comanche trimmed the deficit to a point with a minute left, but the Lady Dragons held on down the stretch.

Maggie Morales led Bangs with 10 points and Brooklann Mullins tacked on nine.

The Lady Dragons will next compete in the Troy tournament Dec. 28-30.

Longhorns 66, Millsap 37

MILLSAP – The Early Longhorns opened District 8-3A boys basketball action Tuesday afternoon with a 66-37 road victory over Millsap.

Early (11-5, 1-0) was sparked by 29 points from Vic Cooper, 10 points apiece from Jaxyn Price and John-Stewart Gordon, seven from Korbin Barr, four from Jeremy Brown, and two points each from Kaleb Hoffman, John Hill and Cody Jackson.

The Longhorns will be back in action Dec. 28-30 at the Eula tournament.

Millsap 62, Lady Horns 41

MILLSAP – The Early Lady Horns experience their first District 8-3A girls basketball defeat Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 62-41 decision to Millsap.

The Lady Horns (7-8, 2-1) trailed Millsap 18-7 after one quarter, 33-23 at halftime, and 53-33 through three periods.

Taylor Summers paced Early with 20 points trailed by Carrigan Norris and Jordan Simmons with six each, Dana Lykes with five, and Caroline Welker and Averey Horton with two points apiece.

Millsap (7-6, 2-1) received 26 points from Claire Dale and 13 from Kelsey Ground.

The Lady Horns will return to action Dec. 28-30 at the Eula tournament.

Comanche 80, Dragons 45

COMANCHE – The Bangs Dragons suffered an 80-45 loss to the Comanche Indians Tuesday night in the District 8-3A boys basketball district opener.

Bangs slipped to 0-1 in league play and 2-6 on the season with the loss. Further information on the game was not available.

The Dragons resume their season Jan. 4 when they host Millsap in league play.
