Melissa Martin and Kacy Cotton

Brownwood ISD issued the following press release Monday afternoon:

This month’s spotlight teacher is Melissa Martin. Ms. Martin is a 6th grade ELAR teacher at Coggin Intermediate school. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Howard Payne University and is a certified teacher with professional licenses that include Generalist (EC-6) and English as a Second Language Supplemental (EC-6). Ms. Martin has been with Brownwood ISD since 2010. Ms. Martin has a positive attitude, and she is focused on solutions. She will do and try anything that will benefit her kids. Her classroom is engaging and fun to visit and there are always smiling faces inside. She finds areas where she can grow every year and takes risks professionally to find innovative ways to reach her students. She has implemented project-based learning, which her students love! Her co-workers look to her for leadership. She is very enthusiastic, energetic, and works very well with her colleagues. Mrs. Martin is a blessing to Coggin Intermediate! Brownwood ISD is grateful to have teachers like Ms. Martin who are passionate, engaging, and go out of their way to find solutions that drive student success.

Our staff spotlight honoree for the month is Kacy Cotton. Ms. Cotton is a Life Academics aide at Woodland Heights Elementary. Working toward a degree in Special Education she has studied at Hill College, Central Texas College and The University of North Texas. She is a state-certified Educational Aide. Ms. Cotton started at Brownwood ISD as a substitute teacher and moved into her current full-time position at Woodland Heights in February 2021. Ms. Cotton has really stepped up as the aide in charge of the Life Academics classroom. She goes above and beyond the call of duty, taking initiative in supervising a classroom, handling difficult situations, and keeping the classroom running smoothly. Her hard work and dedication to the students is apparent to those around her and she is a welcome addition to the Woodland Heights Elementary family. Brownwood ISD is thankful to have staff like Ms. Cotton who not only see and recognize a need, but are willing to step in and do what it takes and more to handle it for our students.
