Jackets improve to 2-3 in ASC action with 67-59 home win over Sul Ross

Howard Payne University’s Michael House led the Yellow Jackets with 20 points in a 67-59 conference win over Sul Ross State University Thursday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.

HPU’s Michael House scored a game high 20 points going 5 of 10 from behind the arc leading the Yellow Jacket charge in the second half.

Down by as much as 16 points in the first half, the Yellow Jackets put together a run to start the second half gaining the lead midway through the period. After a poor first half shooting, the Jackets would connect on 48.4% of their shots while holding the Lobos to 33.3% shooting in the second half.

Following House’s game high 20 points was Myles Brown with 14 points on 4 of 8 three-point shooting. Fredrick Watts finished with 13 points, three blocks, and a season high 14 rebounds. Jaylan Ballou added a game high nine assists along with eight rebounds.

Sul Ross was led by Julian Paredes with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Gabe Sanchez with 17 points.

Howard Payne is now 3-6 overall and 2-3 in American Southwest Conference action. Sul Ross stands at 4-5 overall and 2-3 in league play. The Jackets will play at Austin College in Sherman, Texas on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
