Billy Merryman

Billy Merryman, age 90, of Coleman, died Friday, November 26, 2021, at Coleman County Medical Center.

The family will host a visitation on Monday, November 29, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. Family and friends are invited to a graveside funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2021, at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Jeff Dean officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

He was born Billy James Merryman on September 24, 1931, in Echo to Drew Franklin Merryman and Ivy Ellen Sanders Merryman. Billy grew up in Coleman where he attended school. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1953. Billy married Shirley Joyce Lewellen on July 10, 1954, in Coleman. He worked for Martin Brick Company in Coleman and then worked for Dal-Tile as plant manager until he retired in 1995. Billy also retired from the Coleman Volunteer Fire Department as fire chief. He was a life-long resident of Coleman and a member of the North Coleman Baptist Church.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Drew and Ivy Merryman; his wife, Shirley Merryman; eight sisters; and one brother.

He is survived by five sons, Calvin Merryman and wife Terri of Burkett, Billy Merryman and wife Denise of Cypress, Mike Merryman of Kansas City, Missouri, Teddy Merryman and wife Cynthia of Clyde, and Darrell Merryman of Houston; ten grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Billy to the North Coleman Baptist Church, P.O. Box 977, Coleman, Texas 76834.
