Lions JV, Freshman and Combined squads all collect victories

WAXAHACHIE – The Brownwood JV Lions improved to 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in District 5-4A Division I action with their seventh shutout victory, 48-0 over Waxahachie Life here Thursday night.

The JV Lions, who have outscored their foes 366-13 this season, received 170 passing yards and a touchdown from Ike Hall, who completed 7 of 10 passes including the scoring toss to Morsello Hooker.

Logan McKibben rushed for three touchdowns, Hall added one, and Xavier Zepeda chipped in another.

Defensively, Hooker returned an interception for a touchdown.

The JV Lions will host Stephenville at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in their final contest of the season.

Freshman Lions 22, Waxahachie Life 8

WAXAHACHIE – The Brownwood Freshman Lions tallied a 22-8 road win over Waxahachie Life Thursday to move to 6-2-1 on the season.

Noah Gonzalez gave the Lions an 8-0 lead with a 3-yard touchdown run, as well as the two-point conversion, in the first quarter.

Life answered with a 90-yard touchdown run and the two-point conversion to tie the score at 8.

In the fourth quarter, the Lions regained a 14-8 edge on an 18-yard touchdown carry by Gonzalez.

The Lions tacked on an insurance touchdown on a Gonzalez 6-yard run, along with the successful two-point try, with 40 seconds left.

For the second game in a row, Ross Strasner recorded an interception on the last play of the game.

Other defensive standouts included Jack Field (5 tackles, Forced Fumble), Trae Jones (4 tackles), Nathaniel Rodriguez (4 tackles), Robert Trowbridge (2 tackles, 2 TFL, QBP, 1 Sack), and Antonio Ybarra (3 tackles, TFL).

The Freshman Lions will welcome Stephenville at 5 p.m. Thursday as they conclude their season.

Combined Team 26, Stephenville 0

The Brownwood Combined Subvarsity Lions tallied their first victory of the season Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium, knocking off the Stephenville Freshman B Team, 26-0.

Ty Tindol scored on carries of 2 and 3 yards in the first half as the Lions built a 12-0 halftime cushion.

In the fourth quarter, Neveah Menefield scored on two runs of 1 yard each, and Zakk Zabecki converted a two-point try after the final touchdown.


Defensive standouts included Gray Stewardson (6 tackles, 2 TFL), Case Burnett (5 tackles, TFL, INT), Keedan Brooks (1 tackles, INT), Jonathan Bush (4 tackles, 2 TFL), Treyvon Mitchell (3 TFL, Sack, QBP, Forced Fumble), and Zabecki (4 tackles, 2 TFL).
