Howard Payne University recently held the second installment of the Community Leadership Lunch and Learn series. The sold-out event featured a presentation by Dr. Julie Welker, chair of HPU’s Department of Communication and professor of communication, and a meal catered by Sodexo.

Dr. Welker’s presentation, titled “The Media Mix: Maximizing Small Business Presence in the New Media Market,” offered businesses insight into strategies for advertising and strategic messaging using the PESO (Paid, Earned, Shared and Owned) model of strategic communication. The program also included a message from Rex Tackett, owner of Wendlee Broadcasting.

Wendlee Broadcasting was the title sponsor for the event. Other sponsors included 3M Brownwood; Ann Jones Real Estate; Blevins Body Shop; Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce; Citizens National Bank; Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood; HPU Hispanic Alumni Fellowship; Kohler Co.; MCBank; Painter & Johnson Financial; Porter Insurance Agency; Smith & Sharpe Insurance Agency; TexasBank; Texas-Clean, Inc.; Texas Goldstar Real Estate; and Willie’s T’s. Proceeds from the event benefitted student scholarships at HPU.

Dr. Cory Hines, HPU president, thanked those in attendance and event sponsors for helping make the luncheon a success.

“Our second Lunch and Learn event was a great success thanks to the support of our sponsors and all those who joined us,” said Dr. Hines. “It was a pleasure to connect with the business leaders who help our community thrive as we enjoyed a great lunch provided by Sodexo and an informative presentation from Dr. Welker. I look forward to future installments in our series.”

Details regarding the next installment of the Community Leadership Lunch and Learn series are forthcoming. To sponsor a future Lunch and Learn event, please contact Jacob Rohrer, assistant to the president for special projects, at [email protected] or 325-649-8010.
