Freshman Lions 12, La Vega 6

WACO – The Brownwood Freshman Lions bounced back from a loss last week to notch their first District 5-4A Division I victory, 12-6 at Waco La Vega Thursday night.

The Lions (5-2, 1-1) trailed 6-0 in the second quarter after La Vega converted a 4-and-15 from the 29 to take the lead.

Still trailing with 4:30 left in the game, the Lions scored on a 4-and-5 pass from their own 20 as Treyvell Williams connected with Ross Strasner for the 80-yard score that forced a tie.

The defense then held La Vega, giving the ball back to the offense. With 40 seconds left, Williams scored on a 10-yard run for the final 12-6 outcome.

Defensive standouts included Robert Trowbridge (6 tackles, 1 TFL), Enrique Vasquez (6 tackles), Jack Field (5 tackles), and Weston Wolf (5 tackles).
