Helen Iris May

Helen Iris May, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 in Brownwood at the young age of 103. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16th with a visitation prior to the service starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Stag Creek Cemetery in Comanche County.

Helen was born Sunday, February 10, 1918 in Sidney, Texas to Charles and Estelle Linders. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1935. She married the love of her life Henry Milton May on August 18, 1935 and the two began a life together that blessed them with 2 children. Helen enjoyed quilting and baking pies which was her specialty. She loved jigsaw puzzles and working in the yard tending to her flowers. Helen enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Anyone who knew Helen knew she loved a Coors Light or a glass of wine occasionally. Helen spent many years working at the sewing factory in Brownwood. You should feel very honored if you have a quilt made by Helen May. She worked at the café in Rising Star and also helped Kay run the flower shop in Rising Star.

Helen is survived by her 2 daughters, Billie Eldredge of Lake Brownwood, Kay May and Phil Godfrey of Rising Star; sister Ella Marie Sutton of Forney; granddaughter Pam Stockman of Bangs; grandsons, Brent Holden of Rising Star, Coy Barker and wife Mary of McCamey, Steve Barker and wife Priscilla of Dublin; 12 great grandchildren; 16 great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Milton May; granddaughter Cheryl Nelson and husband Bobby; grandson Mike Holden and great granddaughter Alicia Holden. She is also preceded in death by 1 brother and 3 sisters.
