Eddy Wayne Wood, who served as Fire Chief for the City of Brownwood from 2017-2019, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021

Visitation: 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, October 1, 2021 at Biggers Funeral Home, 6100 Azle Avenue, Fort Worth

Service: 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 2, 2021 at First Baptist Lakeside, 8801 Jacksboro Hwy, Ft Worth, Texas.

Interment: Azleland Memorial Park, 850 N. Cardinal Rd. Azle, Texas. Services will be conducted by Dr. R. K. Ellison, Dr. Jim Brewer, and Chaplain Tim Stevens.

Chief Wood dedicated himself to saving lives, mentoring others, and a life of high integrity with the Fire Service. Eddy embodied his lovable clown persona, while demonstrating humor, wit, and inventive playfulness. Eddy always put family first. He was a compassionate and considerate husband who truly believed he found his soulmate in Ann. Eddy could be seen putting on a spectacle with Bert the fire puppet, Daddy-saurus, and anything else which brought a smile to those around him.

Chief Wood’s warrior spirit sustained him through his battle with brain cancer, contracted through chemical exposure throughout his years in the Fire Service. Chief Wood started his public safety career in 1992 as a Dispatcher with the city of Azle. After basic fire training, he served as a full-time firefighter with the city of Azle. Eddy joined the North Richland Hills Fire Department in October 1998 as a firefighter/paramedic, and was promoted in 2009 to Battalion Chief. After he retired from North Richland Hills in 2017, he served as Fire Chief for the city of Brownwood until 2019. He then relocated to Saginaw, Texas as the Fire Marshall/Division Chief.

Chief Wood was a Master Mason, a Shrine Clown, President of the Moslah Shrine Clowns 2014, and well-known cowboy.

Eddy leaves behind his beloved wife, Ann Ellison-Wood; stepdaughters, Avery and Leah Ellison; his son, Taylor Wood (wife Lacie); daughter, Cheyenne Wood; grandchildren, Whitten Wayne and Rylee Farmer; previous stepdaughters Britain Noah (husband Jack, and children Piper and Oliver), Lexy Sizemore (husband Mason); mother Linda Wood Peninger (husband Gary), father Horace Wood; sisters Kristi Harm (husband Scott, and son Collin); and sister Lisa Elwell (husband Ethan).
