Stephenville topples No. 18 Lady Lions in district volleyball opener

The Brownwood Lady Lions, ranked No. 18 in Class 4A in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association state volleyball poll, began District 6-4A action Friday night at Warren Gym with a 25-23, 25-17, 25-21 loss to reigning league champion Stephenville.

Brownwood (16-7, 0-1) received 11 kills from Olivia Fowler trailed by eight from Jaylen Savage, six from Kylie Morris, five each from Tessa Goodwin and Gracie Boswell, and one from Jordan Northcutt.

Goodwin distributed 17 assists while Kylie Wooten chipped in 14.

Kassidy Wooten served two aces while Fowler, Boswell and Kylie Wooten recorded one apiece against Stephenville (19-9, 1-0).

On the defensive end, Kylie Wooten chalked up 14 digs followed by a dozen from Fowler, 10 from Boswell, eight from Kassidy Wooten, five apiece from Morris and Goodwin, and three each from Savage and Ashlyn Harris.

Morris, Savage and Boswell recorded two blocks apiece for Brownwood, while Fowler added one.

The Lady Lions will attempt to bounce back at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at No. 12 Gatesville (23-5, 1-0), which knocked off Lampasas in straight sets Friday.
