The Brown County Sheriff’s Office posted the following on its Facebook page Wednesday:

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office recently received several reports of a scammer attempting to extort money from Brown County residents. The caller identifies himself as Detective Vance Hill. He then informs the individuals that they have missed a court date and need to make payment with cash or a Green Dot card to rectify the situation. If you receive a call of this nature, hang up. Please do not give them money. The sheriff wants to make sure everyone is aware of this current scam
