The September sales tax allocations to Brown County cities were very strong.  The allocations in September reflect retail sales in July, 2021.

Brownwood

The City of Brownwood received $538,164 in September, an increase of 9.6% over September 2020.

The September allocation completes the 12-month fiscal year of 2020-2021.  For the fiscal year, the City of Brownwood received $6,472,925 in sales taxes, an increase of 10.4% over FY 2019/2020.

City of Brownwood Finance Director Melanie Larose commented:  “This positive increase in sales tax is just a great indicator of a very healthy local economy over the past year.  And through COVID one thing we have realized is you can really see the power of shopping locally.”

The Brownwood Municipal Development District received $175, 727 in September, an increase of 11.9% over September 2020.  The 12-month fiscal year total was $2,075,065, an increase of 9.58% over FY 2019/2020.

Early

The City of Early received $185,912 in September, an increase of 38.84% over September 2020.  The 12-month fiscal year total was $2,698,797, a decrease of 6.57% from FY 2019/2020.  Early has a unique situation in that every August they receive a large sales tax allocation, 6 to 10 times larger than usual, which reflect industrial taxes from previous years that are being allocated now.  This year that allocation in August was $1,203,367.  While that is a large number, it was about $157,000 less than August of 2020.  If you filter out the August allocation, Early’s sales tax revenues for this fiscal year were within 2% of the previous fiscal year.  Also, the recent trend is very strong.  Sales tax allocations for May, June, July, and September of this year are up 32.4% over the same months in 2020.

The Early Municipal Development District received $58,845 in September, up 40.29% over September 2020.  The 12-month fiscal year total was $764,260, a decrease of 9.84% from the previous year.  Again, the industrial taxes in August negatively affected the total for the fiscal year.

Bangs

The City of Bangs received $15,771 in September, an increase of 12.95% over September 2020.  The 12-month fiscal year total was $206,525, an increase of 14.00% over fiscal year 2019/2020.

The Bangs Municipal Development District received $2,370 in September, an increase of 9.88% over September 2020.  The 12-month fiscal year total was $30,617, an increase of 17.46% over fiscal year 2019/2020.
