Subvarsity Lions teams sweep China Spring

The Brownwood JV Lions remained undefeated, posting their second straight shutout in a 21-0 victory over China Spring Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.

The JV Lions have outscored their three foes by a combined score of 113-6.

The Lions offense was led by running back Logan McKibben, who finished with more than 130 yards receiving on the night, catching one touchdown pass from quarterback Ike Hall and rushing for another score. Hall chipped in the third touchdown on the ground as well.

The Lions, who have allowed just 6 points on the season, were led defensively by lineman Daylan McGee, linebacker Logan Posey, safety Hayden Noe, and McKibben at cornerback lead the Lions defense to its second straight shutout.

Freshman Lions 14, China Spring

The Brownwood Freshman Lions improved to 2-1 on the season with a second straight triumph as they upended China Spring, 14-6, Thursday at Gordon Wood Stadium.

Quarterback Braeden Stacks ran for a 70-yard touchdown on the first play of the game to put the Lions up 6-0. The Lions added a safety by Robert Trowbridge just before halftime for an 8-0 lead.

China Spring scored early in the the fourth quarter, but Antonio Ybarra recorded a sack on the two-point try to keep the Lions in front, 8-6.

Noah Gonzalez scored on a 1-yard run late in the game to push the lead to 14-6, then Kenyan McDowell picked off a pass on China Spring’s last possession which allowed the Lions to run out the clock.

Defensive standouts were McDowell (2 tackles, INT), Weston Wolf (4 tackles, 2 TFL), Trowbridge (1 tackle, 1 TFL, 1 tackle for a safety), Cameron Aultman (4 tackles, INT) and Enrique Vasquez (4 tackles, fumble recovery)

In other subvarsity action Thursday, the Brownwood Lions Combined Team fell to Lake Belton by a 7-0 count.

Defensive standouts were Jaiden Gordon (6 tackles), Ty Tindol (5 tackles, PBU), Curtis Banks (9 tackles, 1 TFL), Zakk Zabecki (3 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 PBU) and Cistol Lopez (4 tackles, INT).
