Lady Lions split last two matches at Argyle tournament, place sixth

ARGYLE – The Brownwood Lady Lions split their final two games at the Argyle volleyball tournament Saturday, finishing with a 3-2 weekend record and sixth-place performance in the stacked event.

“I’m proud of the way these girls played against some really tough teams,” said Lady Lions third-year head coach Allison Smith, whose squad now stands at 12-4 on the season.

Brownwood began Saturday action with a 25-16, 25-20 victory over Granbury.

Tessa Goodwin sparked the offense with seven kills followed by Gracie Boswell with six, Jordan Northcutt with five, Olivia Fowler and Jaylen Savage with four apiece, and Kylie Morris with a pair.

Kylie Wooten dished out 17 assists and Goodwin contributed eight, while Fowler and Kassidy Wooten both served two aces and Boswell added one.

Defensively, Fowler registered 16 digs trailed by Boswell with seven, Kylie Wooten with five, Kassidy Wooten with four, Morris with three, Northcutt with two and Savage and Goodwin with one apiece.

Morris logged two blocks at the net while Savage, Boswell and Northcutt were each credited with one.

The tournament concluded with a 25-20, 25-23 loss to Kennedale.

Savage’s six kills served as a team-high for the Lady Lions followed by Boswell with five, Fowler with four, Northcutt with three, and Morris and Goodwin with two apiece.

Goodwin led the way with 11 assists while Kylie Wooten distributed seven and Boswell was credited with one.

Fowler and Boswell each served three aces while Goodwin and Kylie Wooten chipped in one apiece.

Boswell also posted a team-best 12 digs trailed by Kassidy Wooten with seven, Fowler and Goodwin with six each, Morris and Kylie Wooten both with five, and Savage and Northcutt each with one.

Morris collected three blocks, Goodwin added two and Savage posted one.

The Lady Lions are back in action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clyde.
