The Art Center will be mixing things up this week with an exhibit of Mixed Media art by members of the Brownwood Art Association.

The Mixed Media exhibit opens September 2, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the traditional First Thursday event at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Ave. in downtown Brownwood.

“Using two or more art forms allows you to break away from all the boundaries between the different art forms,” according to June Musick, BAA exhibits chairman.

“Start with the materials you have and lay them all out. Play around with them. Turn them over, turn them upside down. Assemble something you wouldn’t normally think of. Cut out photos, cards, old sewing patterns. Add jewelry, hardware, found items, etc. Don’t be afraid to shed old ideas or habits. Take a risk. Clear your thoughts and jump in!” she advises.

The Mixed Media show will be on display through the month of September.

The Art Center is headquarters for Brownwood Art Association, a non-profit agency Brownwood Art Association established in 1927 to create an environment where members are encouraged and inspired to produce and exhibit their works of art, and to sponsor activities that promote the common good and a better understanding between the artist and the public.
