Roy Glenn Sumruld, age 78, of May, entered his heavenly home on July 28, 2021.  He passed away peacefully at home.

Private services will be determined later. Arrangements are under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home in Early.

Roy was born to Charlie and Evelyn (Moffett) Sumruld on February 28, 1943 in Rotan, Texas. Roy graduated from Snyder High School in 1961. He enlisted with the Texas National Guard and then moved to Lubbock to work with Piggly Wiggly.

Roy married Linda Kay Talkmitt on November 14, 1969 and continued to live and work in Lubbock.  The couple welcomed their son, Bryan Wade, on November 23, 1971.  Roy drove for 42 years before retiring in 2011.  Roy and Linda moved to May working tirelessly to make it their own.

Roy loved spending time with family, cooking, grilling, sharing vegetables from his garden and mowing.  Roy restored multiple classic vehicles, including a 1952 Chevrolet pickup twice with his son.  He enjoyed woodworking and once even won the Lubbock Christmas Decorations yard contest.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Sumruld of May, son Bryan & wife Holly Sumruld of Frisco and his sister Sharon K Sumruld of Snyder. He is also survived by the extended family he loved deeply.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

The family would like to wish a special thank-you to the first responders in Brown County.

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be offered to the family online at heartlandfuneralhome.net.
