Trey Toft, a 10th-grade student from Brookesmith, and his partner Hayden Blevins of Talpa competed in Team Roping at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Lincoln, Nebraska earlier this week.

Toft and Blevins were timed at 8.27 Tuesday, which ranked 25th out of 175 teams in the first round. Toft and Blevins did not record a time in the second round Thursday. The duo should learn their final placing later this weekend.

To qualify for Nationals, Toft and Blevins finished as the Reserve State Champions at the state rodeo, as the Top 4 out of 200 teams advanced.

Featuring more than 1,650 contestants from 44 states, five Canadian provinces, Australia, Mexico and New Zealand, the NHSFR is the world’s largest rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $150,000 in prizes, and over $200,000 in added money, NHSFR contestants also compete for more than $375,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named an NHSFR World Champion.

To earn this title, contestants must finish in the Top 20 – based on their combined scores/times in the first two rounds – to advance to Saturday’s final round. World champions will then be determined based on their three-round combined times/scores.

Visit NHSFR.com for complete results.
