Funeral services for Venita Joy (Barnett) Davis 88, of Brownwood, Texas will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 19th at First Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Slaymaker officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8 p.m. Sunday July 18th at Heartland Funeral Home.

Mrs. Joy Davis passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday July 12, 2021.

As a resident of Brownwood, Texas she was born April 6, 1933 in Fort Worth, Texas to Randall Barnett and Minnie Texanna (Bishop) Barnett. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brownwood and cherished her relationship with the Butler Sunday School Class and the congregation.

She graduated from Brownwood High School and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree at Tarleton State University and master’s degrees in education and special education from Howard Payne University.

She served her community as an educator in Brownwood ISD where she made a difference in the lives of countless students. She spent her last 11 years prior to her retirement at the Brownwood State Home and School as a diagnostician. She volunteered her time at the Brownwood Good Samaritan Ministries and First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Davis cherished and loved her family unconditionally and lived by the faith of God

Her greatest pleasure was spending time playing bridge and dominoes with her Sweet Sisters Joy, Edna, Lila, Mary, & Marge. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, studying devotionals, and gardening.

She is survived by her loving sons, Glenn Davis of Brownwood, Gregg Davis and wife Wendy of Hilo, Hawaii, Daughter in law Beverly Davis of Brownwood.

Grandchildren Molly Davis of Brownwood (Daniel), Brittany Davis Johnson (Tanner) of Belton, Texas, Lillie Davis of Maui, Hawaii. Courtney Davis Hagood (Garrett) Brownwood, Maya Austin Davis. Sally Licavoli and family of Georgetown and Jessie Wheat and family of Houston.

Great Grandchildren Tess Johnson, Thea Johnson, Sheldon Pierce, Delaney Pierce.

Cousins June Barnett Winfrey, Janice Barnett Smith, Nona Barnett Giddens, Nell Bishop, Betty Jean Turner, Linda Hobbs, Elaine Roller, Alice Boler, Sue Hedrgenrader, Beverly Elder.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Randall Barnett and Minnie Barnett along with her husband Malcolm M. “Mack” Davis, loving son Lane Davis, and dear friend Kenneth Sanford of Brownwood.

The family requests memorials be made to Good Samaritan Ministries, 305 Clark St, Brownwood, 76801, First Baptist Church, 208 Austin Avenue, Brownwood, 76801 or to Shiloh Bible Church, PO Box 216, Richland Springs, 76871-0216.
