Dovie Garrett, age 95, of Coleman, died Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Coleman County Medical Center.

The family will host a visitation at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at First Baptist Church Coleman, 200 East College Avenue, with Dr. Chas Shira officiating.  Interment will follow in the Gouldbusk Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

She was born Dovie Rose Myers on October 24, 1925, in Gouldbusk to James Henderson Myers and Ella Charlotte Boggs Myers.  Dovie grew up in Gouldbusk where she attended school.  She married Ulys Avery Garrett on May 20, 1945, in Gouldbusk.  Dovie held many occupations in her lifetime from being an airplane riveter to working at J.C. Penny.  What ever her task was, she did it with pride and a smile on her face.  Her most important role was being a wife and mother.  Dovie loved her family and helped provide for them as much as she could.  She enjoyed spending time with them and caring for them.  Her family role ranged from being a mother to great-great-grandmother, and she beamed with pride because of her family.  Her love and kindness were always a blessing to those in need.  Dovie was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and First Baptist Church in Coleman.

Dovie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ulys Avery Garrett; her son, Trent Garrett; her daughters, Gale Moore and Charlotte Petty; her grandson, Randy Moore; her granddaughter, Virginia Petty; eight brothers; and four sisters.

She is survived by her children, Pat Garrett of Coleman, James Robert (Jim Bob) Garrett of the Woodlands, Beverly Chapman of Coleman, and Brenda Hollingsworth and husband Brian of Malaysia; daughter in law, Mary Lou Garrett of Coleman; 15 grandchildren, Scott Moore, Glen Garrett, Mark  Garrett, Harlan Edward Petty, Jr., Jeff Ryan, Casey Moore, Curtis Garrett, Leila Fricks, Jamie Garrett, Brandon Hollingsworth, Kelly Cox, Jessica Prejean, Jordan Garrett, Tyler Garrett, and Jason Petty; 22 great-grandchildren, Dayna Hickman, Brett Moore, Brooke Garrett, Michael Petty, Brice Petty, Matthew Ryan, Eli Ryan, Peyton Garrett, McCall Garrett, Avery Fricks, Brenna Fricks, Cooper Fricks, Emily Garrett, Aislyn Cox, Addison Cox, Chloe Prejean, Kaci Garrett, Trent Cox, Garrett Cox, Luke Prejean, Howell Petty, and Hyde Petty; three great-great-grandchildren, Holt Hickman, Korbin Garrett, and Sylvie Hickman; and one sister, Helen Smith of Blanco.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Dovie to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 983, Coleman, Texas 76834.
