8:00 am Saturday Update:  Widespread rain and non-severe thunderstorms are drenching Brown and neighboring counties.  Rain is still forecast, off and on, much of the day.

Friday post:  KOXE Meteorologist Randy Turner says there is a good chance that, by the time the holiday weekend is over, most of us will have experienced some rain and thunderstorms.

“The chance for rain starts Friday afternoon and carries into Friday night.  I would expect some overnight showers and storms Friday night into Saturday morning.  I think the best chance for rain and thunderstorms comes on Saturday.  I’m forecasting the majority of the rain to happen between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm Saturday.  There will likely be some slow moving showers and storms which can dump some heavy rain.  Lightning is a concern, too. Based on the data available Friday afternoon, I’m hoping we can get a break from the rain in time for Saturday night fireworks to go off as scheduled,” Turner said.

But wait, there’s more!

“We are in a rainy pattern for several more days.  Sunday I expect some hit and miss storms and showers to fire up in the afternoon heat.  On Monday, a higher percentage of rain should once again spread throughout the area,” Turner said.

Temperatures in the 80’s on the 4th of July?

“It happens on occasion but we normally expect mid 90’s or hotter.  This weekend I’m forecasting highs between 85 and 88 outside of rain areas.  In the rain, highs in the 70’s,” Turner added.

The rain chance continues to be good Tuesday as well.

Bottom line, enjoy your holiday weekend but be aware that outdoor plans may have to take a temporary back seat as occasional rain passes through the area.  Seek inside shelter when thunder rumbles.  As always, have a way to receive weather warnings.
